And yes, you can get your child’s passport without their father or mother. There are exceptions and workarounds to only parent situations. Otherwise, both parents must appear in person, together, to get a child’s passport.

Baby’s first trip? Easy! Family vacation – your mom and dad are paying for it? Great! Last minute work trip and baby has to come? You’ll be set!
Step 1: Use Form DS-11 to apply for your child’s passport. The form clearly labels the items you’ll need to bring with you to the appointment. Both parents must be present (there are details in the form on what to do if that’s not possible).
Step 2: You must make an appointment at a passport acceptance facility. Your area post office will be a convenient option.

The standard turnaround time for receiving your child’s passport is 6-8 weeks.
