How To Plan A Company Retreat

Planning A Company Retreat
We like to keep the planning process simple. While you don’t need to have all the answers, providing starting points will help us guide your team bonding in the right direction.
Step 1: When
It may seem simple, but the timing is crucial. We start by conducting a survey, via google forms, to find the most suitable timing for everyone involved. Typically, we propose two date options and select the preferred by the majority date out of those two.
Most team retreats need a minimum of two nights, and usually a maximum of five nights. Knowing what your business serves or provides to its customers, determine if a long weekend or a workweek retreat works best.
Consider how much advance notice your team requires. We suggest a minimum of six months and up to a year, depending on the size of your company/team.
Step 2: Where
Determining the “when” can provide insights into the “where.” We consider questions like:
- What’s the weather like?
- What is everyone’s departure airport or area?
- Are nonstop flights available from those airports?
- How much is this going to cost? Do you have an overall budget for this retreat?
The answers to these questions help us determine the event’s location. We will assist you with making a list of destinations based on the priorities for this event.

Bonus tip; Remember that people in rural areas may have difficulty flying. Also, keep in mind that the US has different time zones. (You laugh now, but uhhh the texts we get tell us most are not aware 😉
Step 3: What
Consider how much time do you need for the retreat. Write “what” you want to accomplish and work backwards on how much time you anticipate those things taking. This step helps you to be realistic about your schedule and avoid over committing yourself.
Breaking down your goals into smaller tasks can help you develop a more manageable plan. From there, we can estimate the time needed for each task. We have found that we 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 need more time than we think! 🙂
