Sometimes, getting everyone on the same page and actually booking the trip is the hardest part. But when the right hotel, location, and little details all come together, you get to wonder why you don’t travel like this more often. It’s what we hear from our repeat clients!
When it comes to where to travel in 2027, we’re all in on slow travel. That means fewer stops, longer stays, and two or three well-chosen home bases instead of six cities in eight days. You get more mornings without alarms, more lingering over lunch, and more time for the little restaurant you almost walked past.
And for the moms who are usually the family travel agent, calendar keeper, and designated finder of everyone’s missing passport, imagine actually enjoying the trip for once. We can take that off of your plate!
Whether you’re dreaming of Mediterranean coastlines, mountain villages, a far-flung safari, or a long weekend closer to home, this guide covers the best places to travel in 2027, when to visit, and when to start planning. After all, the best time to plan is before everyone else has the same idea.

These are the places we can’t stop dreaming about for 2027. The kind of trips that leave you feeling refreshed and more connected to the places you’ve explored. Each destination offers plenty to discover without constantly packing up and moving on, with the option to pair another destination if you have a little more time.
For easy days and the kind of beach vacation you’ll wish lasted longer.
Imagine waking up near the sea, spending the morning exploring turquoise coves by boat, and lingering over a seaside lunch with nowhere else you need to be. Sardinia is made for travelers who want the beauty of the Mediterranean without feeling like they need to see it all in one trip. Choose a coastal home base, settle in, and let the days unfold naturally.
The feeling: Sun-warmed skin, salty hair, long lunches, and absolutely no rush to leave the beach.
When to go: Late May through June or September into early October for warm days and a more relaxed feel than peak summer.
For travelers who believe a great meal is always worth lingering over.
The Basque Country is where a beautiful coastal escape meets a seriously good food scene. Make San Sebastián your home base for beach walks, charming streets, and evenings spent sampling pintxos one little plate at a time. Add a day trip to Bilbao or explore a few nearby coastal towns, but leave room for the best part: enjoying a place without constantly checking what’s next.
The feeling: Lively evenings, amazing vineyards, beautiful coastlines, and one more bite before calling it a night.
When to go: May through June or September for pleasant weather and a little more breathing room than the busiest summer weeks.

Sardinia, Italy
For a slower side of Tuscany, with the sea just around the corner.
Tuscany doesn’t have to mean hilltop villages and vineyard views alone. Along the Tuscan coast, you’ll find seaside towns, fresh seafood, sandy beaches, and a laid-back Italian rhythm that makes it easy to settle in. Choose one coastal base and enjoy the surrounding villages, or pair a few nights by the sea with time in Florence or the Tuscan countryside for a trip that offers a little of everything without trying to do it all at once.
The feeling: Salt air, leisurely dinners, charming coastal towns, and that wonderful sense that you could stay just a few more days.
When to go: June or September for beach weather with a more comfortable pace. July and August bring the liveliest summer atmosphere.
For market mornings, countryside charm, and long lunches by the pool that turn into afternoons.
There’s something about Provence that encourages you to slow down. Spend the morning wandering a local market, stop for lunch in a sun-drenched village, and leave the afternoon open for a scenic drive or a quiet moment back at your hotel. The kids love the green space around this area to play made up games! With a thoughtfully chosen home base in the Luberon or near Aix-en-Provence, you can explore the region without turning every day into a road trip.
The feeling: Fresh flowers, beautiful little discoveries, leisurely lunches, and the pleasure of having nowhere urgent to be.
When to go: May, June, or September for lovely exploring weather. If lavender fields are on your wish list, aim for late June through mid-July, depending on the area and growing conditions.
For storybook villages and the simple pleasure of enjoying quaint countryside.
If your ideal escape involves a charming country inn, countryside walks, beautiful gardens, and a cozy pub at the end of the day, the Cotswolds deserves a spot on your 2027 list. This is a place to pick a village or countryside retreat as your home base and explore the surrounding area at an easy pace. You don’t need a packed itinerary when the charm is in the little things: a garden worth wandering, a village worth lingering in, or a lunch that lasts longer than planned.
The feeling: Cozy, romantic, and wonderfully removed from the everyday rush.
When to go: May through June for gardens and longer days, or September for a quieter countryside feel. Autumn brings its own cozy appeal, too.

Cotswolds, England
For dramatic landscapes, castle stays, and evenings by the fire.
The Scottish Highlands offer a different kind of escape: expansive scenery, misty lochs, historic castles, and winding roads that make the journey part of the experience. Rather than racing around the entire country, choose a few well-placed stays and give yourself time to enjoy the landscapes, take a scenic train journey, or spend an afternoon exploring somewhere unexpected. It’s a beautiful reminder that not every memorable trip needs to be filled with activity.
The feeling: Wild, atmospheric, and a little bit magical, with the kind of scenery that makes you put your phone down and simply look around.
When to go: May through September for longer daylight hours and the best opportunity to explore outdoors. Early autumn can be especially lovely for changing colors and a quieter feel.
For alpine scenery without the constant hotel changes.
Lucerne makes an excellent home base for travelers who want mountain views, lake days, and charming European streets without moving from place to place every other night. Spend a morning cruising Lake Lucerne, take a mountain excursion to Mount Rigi or Pilatus, and leave time to wander the old town or enjoy a leisurely meal overlooking the water. With so much nearby, you can experience the best of Switzerland while keeping your itinerary refreshingly simple.
The feeling: Fresh mountain air, peaceful lake views, and the satisfying balance of adventure and relaxation.
When to go: June through September for lake cruises, hiking, and mountain excursions. December offers a completely different experience, with festive markets and a cozy winter atmosphere.

Lucerne, Switzerland
For meaningful cultural experiences and expanding your culture.
Kyoto rewards travelers who give it time. Beyond its famous temples and shrines, you’ll find peaceful gardens, traditional streets, neighborhood restaurants, and opportunities to learn about Japanese crafts and culture. Instead of trying to fit every sight into a day, choose a few experiences that genuinely interest you and allow time to wander. Pair Kyoto with Tokyo for a broader introduction to Japan, or add a hot-spring retreat for a quieter finish.
The feeling: Thoughtful, immersive, and full of small moments you might have missed if you were rushing to the next stop.
When to go: March through May or October through November for popular spring and autumn scenery. These periods can be busy, so thoughtful planning and well-timed sightseeing make a difference.
For island days, historic towns, and the art of stretching out a summer evening.
Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is full of places that tempt you to keep moving, but the magic often comes when you resist the urge to see every island. Choose a coastal town or island as your base, spend your days swimming in the Adriatic, wandering historic streets, and enjoying long dinners by the water. You can always add another stop, but a little breathing room is what turns a beautiful itinerary into a genuinely relaxing escape.
The feeling: Clear blue water, unhurried afternoons, lively waterfront evenings, and the freedom to change your plans when a beach day is too good to leave.
When to go: June or September for warm weather and a more relaxed atmosphere than the busiest weeks of summer.
For a once-in-a-lifetime journey that deserves more than a quick stop.
Some trips are worth giving a little extra time, and South Africa is one of them. Spend several nights at a safari lodge, where early-morning game drives and quiet afternoons give you the chance to experience the bush beyond a single wildlife sighting. Then trade the open landscapes for Cape Town’s coastal beauty, excellent food, and time in the surrounding Winelands. With a thoughtful route and enough nights in each place, the journey feels expansive without becoming exhausting.
The feeling: Awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, extraordinary landscapes, and the rare feeling of being fully immersed somewhere new.
When to go: May through September is generally a strong period for safari viewing in many of South Africa’s reserves, while September through November brings springtime energy to Cape Town and the surrounding region. The best timing depends on your priorities and the areas you plan to visit.

We’re big believers in using your PTO. We’re even bigger believers in making every day count.
A little calendar strategy can turn a few vacation days into a proper escape. Here are a few 2027 dates worth circling.
The Fourth of July falls on Sunday, with the federal holiday observed Monday, July 5. Take July 6–9 off, and four PTO days can create a nine-day break. It’s a great opportunity for a family summer trip to the Mediterranean, the Swiss Alps, or somewhere closer to home.
Veterans Day falls on Thursday. Take Friday off for a four-day weekend using just one PTO day. It’s a lovely opportunity for a fall getaway, whether that means a cozy domestic escape or a few days of sunshine in the Caribbean.
The holiday calendar lines up beautifully for a longer break. With Christmas and New Year’s Day both falling on Saturday, four PTO days from December 27–30 can create a ten-day stretch when paired with the surrounding weekends and observed holidays.
A little planning note: Federal holiday observances, employer policies, and school calendars can differ, so confirm your dates before booking.

The earlier we start, the more time we have to find the right stays, best experiences, and add the little details that make a trip feel like you. Here’s when to get started:
Fall 2026: Start with the big trips.
Prioritize peak-season safaris, Japan’s cherry blossom season, summer family travel, Mediterranean villas, cruises, and travel around the August 2027 total solar eclipse. Limited inventory and high-demand dates make these worth planning early.
November–December 2026: Secure spring break, Easter and Festive
Family-friendly resorts, connecting rooms, and popular holiday weeks can fill quickly. This is also a good time to explore expedition cruises and special-occasion trips.
January–March 2027: Plan European summer.
Sardinia, the Tuscan Coast, Provence, Croatia, and Switzerland are all worth planning ahead for. This is especially important if your dream stay involves a small boutique hotel or private villa.
April–May 2027: Look toward fall.
Start planning September and October travel, including wine-country escapes, Japan’s fall foliage, and shoulder-season European trips.
June–July 2027: Get ahead of the holidays.
Start organizing Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and year-end travel before airfare and family-friendly room options become more limited.
August–September 2027: Last minute festive travel and winter 2028
If Christmas or New Year’s is on your wish list, this is the time to lock in remaining flights and accommodations rather than hoping the perfect option magically appears.
The golden rule: The more complex or once-in-a-lifetime the trip, the earlier you should start. For peak-season safaris, multigenerational villas, and highly sought-after hotels, planning nine to twelve months ahead—or earlier—is often best.
